A green thumb?

We shall see.

Last weekend we planted a garden with the help of my mom and grandparents. Friday night I got home from work to half built containers then chipped in to finish.

The next day we made several trips to Lowes to buy dirt and plants. That's right... we bought dirt. For all our Midwest friends and family, you don't just get to plop stuff in the native soil here and watch it grow. Unless your plants are covered in large spines, they generally need a little more help around here.

I believe Luke had more fun than anyone for one simple reason. A good portion of our dirt was actually steer manure. Or "poopy" as Luke called it. Over, and over, and over again. He got away with using his favorite word all day without scolding.

Finally, green stuff! We planted watermelons, carrots, lettuce, beets, a whole box of spices, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and more.

Now we just need to see if we can keep it all alive. And since we just had three nights of below freezing temps, we've already failed on that front. Apparently tomato plants don't especially like the cold.

Also, this is my first attempt at a post from an iPad. Paige has been itching for one for her blogstalking. We also thought it might be useful in Ethiopia to store pictures and maybe post a few blog entries, if the Internet over there will handle it. We shall see. So she got one last week, a day before our computer crapped out. The IT guys at mywork are looking at our computer, so this thing has been very useful this week. But this is my first practice blog post to see how this works. Let me know if this post is all jacked up.

Pretty sure we planted a garden, not painted one. And I think Luke gets his potty mouth from your side of the family. :)
